Delays increase on M62 eastbound yet again

One lane remains closed between junctions 22 and 23 and normal traffic conditions are now not expected until after 9pm.

Given the recent sad news, we expect that the delays could go on for much longer than this.

We’ll post an article soon to recap.

Police confirm man fell from bridge

Police have confirmed that a man fell from a bridge over the motorway.

They received a report of a concern for his safety, but within minutes he had fallen from the bridge.

Paramedics confirmed his death shortly before 6pm.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said:

Police were called to the M62 eastbound near junction 22 at Rishworth shortly before 5.30pm today to a report of a concern for safety in relation to a man on a bridge over the motorway.

Within minutes of this call, further information was received that the man had fallen from the bridge.

Emergency services attended at the scene, with paramedics confirming the man as deceased shortly before 6pm.

Closures have been put in place on the bridge and motorway while enquiries are carried out at the scene.

Man’s body found at side of M62

Police are investigating after a man’s body was found on the verge of the M62 eastbound shortly before 6pm tonight.

Reports on social media suggest that a man had fallen from Scammonden Bridge.

The incident happened between junctions 22 and 23.

There’s been another incident on the M62 eastbound between junctions 22 and 23.

It’s not clear what it is yet, but we’re looking for more information and will keep updating as it comes in.

One of three lanes is closed and normal traffic conditions are not expected until after 7pm.

M62 still congested

UPDATE: Four vehicles involved

West Yorkshire Police’s customer contact centre initially tweeted that they were dealing with reports of a 10-vehicle collision.

But a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson has now said that there were four cars involved in the collision.

The spokesman added that there was only damage to the vehicles and no-one was injured.

A fire spokesperson also confirmed that they were called to the scene but no-one was trapped and four vehicles were involved in the collision.

There are still some delays in the area following the incident.

We're hearing mixed reports about the traffic on the M62

Officials say traffic is returning to normal but this member of the public says otherwise...

All lanes have been re-opened on M62

All lanes have been reopened on the M62 westbound after traffic was temporarily held due to the accident.

The vehicles have now been recovered to the hard shoulder.

Normal traffic conditions are expected within the next 10 minutes.

Crash on the M62 involving 10 vehicles

A whopping 10 vehicles have collided on the M62 westbound.

The accident happened between junction 22 for Rishworth Moor and 23 for Huddersfield. Police are advising motorists to avoid the area.

Emergency services are on the scene.

All traffic is being temporarily held and the congestion goes back to junction 24 for Ainley Top.

Hot off the press: Missing disabled duck in Meltham!

A duck with a disfigured leg has disappeared from a wildlife rescue in the Colne Valley.

Meltham Wildlife Rescue are appealing for their missing duck who cannot waddle properly due to her impaired leg. The mallard has now been missing for two nights after fluttering off into a neighbour’s garden and further afield since.

She is reportedly “not hard to spot” due to her leg problem, and was sighted yesterday flying over Wessenden. People are being asked to check their gardens, garages and sheds that have been left open. Anyone who spots a duck which fits the bill is asked to call 07595422739.

Search for missing man's body extended to moors

Detectives are still searching for the body of missing Tyron Charles.

Mr Charles, 29, has not been seen since the beginning of September, although police say there is sufficient evidence to suggest he has come to serious harm and have now extended their search around Denholme, Bradford, to nearby moorland.

James Sutcliffe, 28, has been charged with Mr Charles’ murder and appeared in court last week.

Enquiries into the case are ongoing and anyone with information on what may have happened to Tyron is asked to contact HMET via 101.

CORONATION STREET STAR LIZ DAWN HAS DIED AGED 77

Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn, who played Vera Duckworth for more than 30 years, died peacefully aged 77, her family said. In a statement her family said they are “devastated and heartbroken at the passing of our much-loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, the incredible Liz Dawn.” Her family said she died peacefully on Monday night at home “with her loving family around her”. CORBYN URGED TO ENSURE NEW ANTI-SEMITISM RULES BACKED AMID ‘EMBARRASSING’ ROW

Jeremy Corbyn has been urged to ensure Labour backs tough new rules on anti-Semitism amid an “acutely embarrassing” row over comments made at the party’s conference in Brighton which allegedly targeted Jews. Labour members are debating new rules to clamp down on anti-Semitism which were proposed by the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) and backed by Mr Corbyn and the party’s ruling National Executive Committee (NEC), with a vote on the motion expected around lunchtime.

Theresa May will hold talks with European Council president Donald Tusk as she attempts to secure a breakthrough in the Brexit process. Mr Tusk will discuss progress with the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier before heading to London for the meeting with the Prime Minister. The fourth round of talks on the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union began in Brussels on Monday, with Brexit Secretary David Davis insisting there are “no excuses” for blocking progress.

Man wanted in connection with rape allegation

Have you seen Nicolae Fratutescu?

The 47-year-old is being sought by officers investigating a rape allegation in Bradford. The alleged attack is said to have occurred in May last year.

Mr Fratutescu is described as being of slim build and 5ft 7ins tall. He is also known to wear glasses.

Det Insp Victoria Lawrance said: “We have made extensive enquiries to trace Mr Fratutescu and are now appealing to the public to help us find him. The allegations are of a serious nature and it is important we find him, so we can speak to him about them. We do not believe he poses a wider risk to the public, but would ask for anyone who sees him not approach him and contact police.”

Man arrested in connection with Moldgreen attack

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man from Huddersfield in connection with an attack in Moldgreen on Sunday.

The assault occurred at Elmfield Terrace when two men, ages 29 and 50, were attacked by three other with baseball bats and a knife in their flat kitchen.

Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police via 101 quoting crime reference 13170442367.

Boy taken to hospital after being hit by van

Cleckheaton town centre was sealed off by police last night after a teenage cyclist was hit by a van.

The 13-year-old boy was knocked over after colliding with a Toyota van on Northgate. Police were called by the ambulance service at 7.45pm and sealed off the road half an hour later.

The boy was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with facial injuries and suspected serious head injuries and checked over, but found not to be seriously hurt. He was kept in overnight as a precaution.

Officers spoke to the van driver who stopped at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.

Tim Peake making a galactic visit to West Yorkshire

Astronaut Tim Peake is in West Yorkshire today!

He’ll be stopping by at the National Media & Science Museum in Bradford where the Soyuz capsule is due to go on show tomorrow.

The capsule transported Tim back to Earth from the International Space Station in June last year. It will be on exhibition at the museum tomorrow - complete with the scorch marks from where it re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere.

A fairly calm and much drier day on the menu for Huddersfield today.

Skies are to remain grey and cloudy with lightly warmer temperatures of 16-17 degrees. No rain on the cards, either.

All lines are back open after the disruption involving failing signalling this morning:

Hospital bed shortage at HRI

Six people scheduled to have operations at HRI yesterday were sent home as there were no beds available for them, it’s been reported.

A doctor who had come over from Northern Ireland to perform the operations was unable to carry out any due to the shortage of beds for patients afterwards. A Brighouse woman whose husband was in theatre to have a lump removed for potential testicular cancer said doctors were unable to properly discharge him without a bed, and instead had to discharged him outside the theatre.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: “One man we spoke to had already had an operation cancelled and this was the second time it had happened. A doctor had come over especially and couldn’t perform any operations because there were no beds to put the patients in afterwards.”

Car accident on Bradford Road, Brackenhall

Reports of a car accident on Bradford Road by Asda this morning.

Two cars, one reportedly a Citroen, were involved in the crash at the junction with Long Hill Road. Cars have been backing up coming down Bradford Road towards town as police attend the scene and try to control the traffic.

The collision was reported at 8.05am - no reports of any injuries at the moment but we’ll try to get an update later when police have more information.

Reports of disruption on the train lines this morning - this is due to signalling problems.

Very congested as usual on the M62 eastbound between junctions 25 and 26 this morning.

The westbound entry sliproad at junction 25 is also queueing back onto the motorway with traffic very slow all the way down Wakefield Road towards Cooper Bridge.
