FIREFIGHTERS faced a smelly task when called to a fire at a farm.

Eight large piles of manure and hay had been set on fire next to a field at Hall Lane in Thornhill, Dewsbury.

The smouldering muck was found at 6.15am today, but may have been burning for hours after being set alight by arsonists.

Firefighters let six of the piles burn down, but two under power lines had to be doused.

Luckily the smell wasn't too bad. Watch manager David Price said: "We didn't even need to use breathing apparatus!"
