Huddersfield's rich history of open markets and thriving traders is revealed in this fascinating gallery.

Pictures from the Kirklees Council archives show the town's markets from years gone by, from pig and cattle trading to the open markets and famous stalls in the old market hall.

Did you know John Lewis had a market stall in Huddersfield? And we've found a snap of the old Marks and Spencer stall in the King Street hall too!

The gallery goes as far back as 1905, with pictures of the town's old pig and cattle market.

Take a look at these nostalgic pictures — and if you have any of your own we'd love to add them to our gallery.
