TWENTY-three years ago The Prince’s Trust helped Alastair Hanson set up his first company in Marsden.

Now the green music entrepreneur has repaid the favour by presenting one of their clarinets, approved by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Environmental group, Size of Wales, hosted the event on St David’s Day and supported the Mpingo African Blackwood Project which allowed Mr Hanson to produce the first ever FSC approved clarinet.

The project is situated in the Kilwa district of Tanzania.

It helps local communities secure legal land rights to manage their forests in an area where exploitation of African blackwood for woodwind instruments is threatening the survival of the forests and the communities which depend upon them.

The Prince of Wales accepted the clarinet on behalf of the Prince’s Trust.

Hanson Music is a family-based firm based in Marsden.
