A HUDDERSFIELD thespian has just received his MBE at Buckingham Palace.

Peter Armitage was honoured for his services to theatre in West Yorkshire.

Having received the award from Prince Charles, he found himself on the same bill as Colin Firth – and had time for a quick chat.

Mr Armitage – father of poet Simon Armitage – said: “It was an absolutely marvellous and wonderful experience and one that I never thought would happen to me.

“Prince Charles and I had quite a chat. He talked to me about the Avalanche Dodgers and he knew all about them.

“He said he hoped it would continue to be successful.”

Mr Armitage, who is the mastermind behind Marsden’s all-male pantomime group the Avalanche Dodgers, was at the Palace from 10am to noon and went along with his wife, daughter and granddaughter.

He has already taken the award along to show the rest of the group, who told him, they hoped it wouldn’t hurt when he pinned it to his pyjamas.
