Marsden Mechanics Hall prepares to split its sides when it hosts its debut comedy night this month.

The hall will be the venue for the first Marsden Comedy Night on September 19.

It is one of a series of events for the hall being organsied by local residenst, who aim to take over the running of the historic venue from Kirklees Council.

On the bill is Steve Royle, who has appeared on Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere.

He’s a regular headliner at The Comedy Store and ‘alternative’ venues and has performed alongside Steve Coogan and Peter Kay at Manchester’s Apollo Theatre.

Royle was voted ‘Entertainer of the Year’ at the inaugural Red Rose Awards.

Accompanying him will be Steve Shanyaski, a comedian whose whirlwind performances and routines are filled with silly energy.

Shanyaski has performed at major venues such as Jongleurs, Glee Club, CSE and the Comedy Store.

Also on the bill is BBC New Comedy Award finalist Peter Brush, from Marsden, who has been described as ‘Yorkshire’s answer to Woody Allen’.
