IMBOLC is a celebratory fire event based on the old Celtic festival of the same name.

It takes place on February 4, starting at 7pm from the Railway Station in Marsden.

Traditionally the festival celebrates the end of winter and the beginning new awakenings.

This particular festival was started by Kirklees Countryside Volunteers about 12 years ago and has become a popular annual event.

Leading up to the actual event there are a series of workshops throughout January which include drumming, fire circus skills, Marsden Community Orchestra and lantern making.

These family orientated workshops are free and open to anyone.

The skills learned at the workshops and the articles produced are then used during the performance at the Imbolc Festival.

On the night itself people are entertained by drummers before the procession starts.

The procession through the woods is then led by torch bearers and drummers and people carrying lanterns and torches.

When the procession arrives at the final destination there are several different drumming groups and a fire circus to entertain the crowd, followed by a short drama piece which involves a battle between Jack Frost and The Green Man and his accomplices.

The evening is then brought to a close with a grand firework finale.
