Marsden Mechanics Hall was filled with the sounds and smells of a one-off music and food event.

Marsden Menuscript was organised by Marsden Jazz Festival, with funding from Arts Council England, to promote the annual village highlight.

The brainchild of co-directors Hugh Nankivell and Wils Wilson, writer Anna Clarkson and producer Taru Sinclair, Marsden Menuscript – the Food of Love told the tale of an Italian chef looking for his long-lost love in Marsden.

Over the past few weeks, community groups and school children have been working with guest musicians including Meilyr Jones, Eve Harrison, Ben McCabe and Annie Whitehead to create new music specially for the event.

Local food businesses The Handmade Bakery and A Month of Sundaes have also hosted instant songwriting sessions with residents and are contributing bread and a specially-themed ice cream to the event.

The event saw the procession of a community choir, band and cutlery orchestra around the village from Marsden Bandroom to the Mechanics Hall.

Marsden Jazz Festival runs from October 11-13. For a full programme see www.marsdenjazzfestival.com
