People can now celebrate their divorce as much as they did when they got married.

For a Huddersfield venue has launched divorce parties.

Fusion Cocktail Lounge in Marsh is aiming ‘to have and to hold’ divorce parties for newly single men and women.

Owner Aj Khaliq says Fusion is one of the first in the UK to buy into the trend which has spread across from the USA.

Aj, who runs the venue alongside children’s party club Popkidz, said he wanted to provide something different and has already been taking bookings.

He said: “I noticed a few years ago in America that divorce parties were getting very popular, which I know is going to raise a few eyebrows.

“But then the idea grew on me, why not celebrate your divorce? It’s nothing to be ashamed of, it happens everyday.”

Aj explained that divorce parties are “an opportunity to vent, cry, laugh, yell and whatever you need to do.”

Fusion is in the process of installing a liquid-filled LED dance floor, also one of the first in the UK.

Aj added: “Sometimes friends can throw a party to show their divorcing pal that they are supported, loved and not alone.

“It’s an opportunity to announce your new status in life.

“You are now single and available for new experiences and even new relationships.

“A whole new phase of life is beginning and that is something to celebrate.”

Aj said he predicted it wouldn’t be long before the trend spreads across the UK like wildfire, and although aware of the craze, did not know of any other venues hosting the unusual party.

“We won’t be just the standard venue hosting run of the mill parties,” he said.

Divorce parties were made popular in the USA, with American events companies reporting clients spending thousands celebrating a very different kind of happy ever after.

Figures published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) claim that 42% of marriages in England and Wales currently end in divorce, while 38% of couples split before their 20th anniversary.
