Family tributes have been paid to a Newsome dad of three as a man was due to appear at Leeds Crown Court charged with his murder.

Martin Ackroyd, 50, was found dead at his home on Friday lunchtime.

Detectives launched a murder investigation following the grim discovery and two people were subsequently arrested.

Surjit Singh Sidhu, 48, of New Hey Road, Marsh, has been charged with murder and will appear at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday.

A 30-year-old woman, who was also arrested, was released on bail.

Tributes have been paid on social media to Mr Ackroyd who is believed to have only lived at the flat in Ashenhurst Rise, Newsome, for four months.

He is believed to have three sons Michael, Steven and Thomas J (known as TJ) who all attended Royds Hall High School.

The divorced father grew up in Elland and attended Brooksbank School.

His son Ste Ackroyd posted: “He was a good man good friend to a lot of people and a good dad. I just hope he is happy up there singing his songs knowing we all love him and will miss him xxx.”

His other son Michael simply posted: “RIP dad love you xxx” and changed his Facebook profile picture to a photograph of his father.

Lyndsey Procter also posted: “RIP Uncle Martin. I may not have seen you for a lot of years but you are still my uncle and I won’t ever forget you xxxx.”

Graeme Hannam added: “RIP to Martin Ackroyd. My thoughts, prayers and condolences go to his family especially his sons.

“He was a decent bloke. Gone but not forgotten.”

Terri Dyson also posted on Facebook and said: “Just seen that it was Martin. Sorry for your loss. What a terrible way to go. He was a good man. Gone too soon xx.”

Helen Furey added: “RIP Martin. You were a lovely man. Cannot describe in words how very deeply you will be missed.”
