ONE skater tackled Huddersfield outdoor ice rink with real skill - for she is a true champion.

Onlookers watched with admiration as Czech skating star Martina Fasnerova demonstrated some smart moves.

The 21-year-old is in Huddersfield on the BA European business programme at the university.

She hopes to land a place in the Czech team at the world skating championships in Canada in March and is aiming to be in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Next month she will compete in her country's synchronised skating championships.

Martina took to the ice in Huddersfield on Czech National Day - the day marking the fall of communism in 1989.

Giving her approval to the Piazza ice rink, Martina said she was delighted to be in Huddersfield.

She said: "I consider that an international perspective is as important in business as it is in sport.

"The European business programme within the Business School has provided me with the opportunity not only to develop my career but also to meet students from many other countries and cultures.

"I am looking forward to putting my learning into practice in an international business career".

Head of Business Studies Dr John Anchor, said: "Martina is a fantastic example of the increasing internationalisation of the student body within Huddersfield University Business School.

"The growing number of students from other countries and cultures is enriching the experience of the students themselves and also of the wider community."
