A GARDEN centre manager was threatened by masked raiders who struck moments after he locked up.

They escaped with his briefcase - but would have been very disappointed when they opened it.

For all it had inside were some sausages.

The 43-year-old victim had locked up Whiteley's Garden Centre on Far Common Road in Mirfield when he was confronted by a balaclava-clad man in the car park at 9.45pm last night.

The thief had emerged from behind a large tree carrying a wheelbrace.

A second man then loomed out of the shadows and stole the victim's briefcase.

The two robbers got into a dark-coloured saloon car - possibly an L-registered one - before driving at the victim.

He managed to leap out of the way and the thieves sped off.

One is stocky with a tanned complexion and 5ft 6ins tall.

His accomplice is 6ft and slim.

Both wore balaclavas and dark hooded jackets.

Anyone with information should contact Det Sgt Paul Simm at Kirklees CID on 01484 436685.
