A GANG of men armed with a machete, hammer and crowbar struck in Fartown, it was revealed today.

The thugs forced a man out of his parked car before dragging him to his nearby home and threatening him as they demanded cash.

The terrifying robbery happened when the man was sitting in his Vauxhall Corsa on the drive of his Hammerton Road home.

He was approached by two masked men who threatened him and demanded money.

The 22-year old, who had been on the phone to his girlfriend before the attack, was then forced into the living room of his home.

A further three masked men joined in the attack and threatened him and a 19-year old woman who was in the living room at the time.

Also in the house were the victim’s brothers, who are aged 15 and 16 years old.

They heard the commotion and went downstairs, but were blocked from getting into the living room by the gang who left the house after stealing a safe containing jewellery from a downstairs bedroom.

The suspects ran away in to York Avenue and were followed by the victim and his brothers until they lost sight of the thieves.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a robbery in Hammerton Road at around 10.45pm on January 6.

“Nobody was injured during the incident and the suspects were described as being five men wearing dark clothing and face coverings.

“Three of the suspects were armed, one with a machete, one with a hammer and a third with a crowbar.”

The spokesman added that it was terrifying to think that people armed with machetes were involved but said it was thought to be a targeted attack.

Any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information is asked to contact Det Con Shaun Topham at Huddersfield CID via 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
