A masked robber pinned a shopworker to the floor in an early morning raid today.

The attacker was one of two men wearing balaclavas who burst into Hutson's newsagents on Huddersfield Road in Meltham at around 5.20am today.

Two men, armed with crow bars, have entered the shop as it was being opened.

One of the men held a staff member to the floor while the other has taken money from the till.

Police say that following initial enquiries it is believed that the men may have got in to a white van which drove off in the Holmfirth direction.

Both men are described as white, aged between 20 and 30-years-old, and wearing black balaclavas.

One of the men was wearing a grey jacket.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or who was in the area and saw a white van around the time of this incident is asked to call Detective Sergeant Nigel Gittins at Huddersfield CID on 101.

Alternatively, information can be passed to independent charity Crimestoppers on  0800 555 111 .
