AN engineer will be heading out to Shizuoka, Japan, next month after sailing through the final selection stage of the 2007 WorldSkills competition.
Matthew Lander, 19, of Honley cold store specialists Crowther and Shaw, will represent the UK in the contest’s air conditioning and refrigeration category.
The qualifying event at South Birmingham College involved a series of tasks, including the design and installation of a small cold room.
Matthew said: “The contest was intense and the tasks were really difficult. But I had practised hard and was confident that my knowledge and experience would get me through.”
Matthew has already been crowned as the UK’s National Young Refrigeration Engineer. He trained with Building Engineering Services Training (Best).
He added: “Everyone at Best and Crowther and Shaw, were extremely helpful during my preparation.
“I am looking forward to spending some time in the Far East and representing the UK.”
