FORMER Brighouse student Matthew Wolfenden, inset, is this year’s Dancing On Ice champion.

The star of Emmerdale clinched the honours when the final was televised on Sunday night.

The former Brighouse High School pupil and dancing partner Nina Ulanova defeated Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter and Matt Evers in the eyes of the voting public as each performed a version of Ravel’s famous composition Bolero, to claim the honours at the end of the three-month ITV1 series.

Their efforts were highly praised by show coaches Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who made Bolero world famous with their gold medal-winning performance in the 1984 Winter Olympics.

Dean said of the version by Wolfenden and Ulanova: “It was sublime.

“Matthew’s exhausted now, he’s put his heart and soul into it.”

Wolfenden lives at Norwood Green with his partner, Emmerdale co-star Charley Webb and their baby son Buster.
