He’s been dubbed “Mr Mystery” by baffled medics.

Newsome teenager Ajay Singh has a neurological condition which doctors have never identified.

The 14-year-old weighs his age in kilos - the same as a two-year-old - and is unable to walk, talk or eat unaccompanied.

Ajay was also unable to sit up without help - until a recent move of kindness from a Huddersfield store.

A partnership between M&S and disabled charity Newlife means the Castle Hill pupil can now sit upright and unaided after the donation of a specialist chair.

Ajay was born a regular baby at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, weighing a healthy 6lb 2oz.

But mum Kim Brooke was told Ajay wouldn’t reach his first birthday, a prediction the youngster has continued to defy.

Kim, 50, a claims manager, says she knew shortly after his birth that something was not quite right.

The mum said: “We noticed he wasn’t doing much and wasn’t thriving.

“He was sent off for tests at Leeds General Infirmary but doctors were never able to diagnose anything.

“They still told us Ajay wouldn’t make it past his first birthday. It was a very difficult time.”

The teen is supported by various local causes, including the Forget Me Not Hospice.

But despite the support, as well as a helping hand from 16-year-old big brother Che, Ajay has struggled to get comfortable while being supported.

Kim said: “I found out about P Pod chairs at Forget Me Not and this is what Ajay really needs to improve his day to day life – it will help keep him upright and be comfortable at the same time, reducing the likelihood of pressure sores.

“It’s the perfect solution for Ajay.”

At a cost of £1,000, the chairs don’t come cheap.

But the family were given a helping hand from Newlife, who teamed up with Marks & Spencer to donate the specialist seat for his needs.

Simon Street, M&S Huddersfield store manager, said: “Being able to provide the specialist seat to Ajay is extremely rewarding for our team and it’s great to hear what a positive impact it has had.”
