CYCLING enthusiasts are being invited to a Huddersfield meeting to examine future plans.

They are gathering to establish whether there is a desire for the wide range of cycling activity in the district to be co-ordinated.

The event will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday, February 27, at Huddersfield Town Hall.

It is being organised by the West Yorkshire “go:cycling” project, an initiative of West Yorkshire transport body, Metro, and local authorities to encourage adults to take up the sport.

Special guest will be John Dennis, the original chairman of Cycle Bradford, who will explain the background and how grass-roots cycling activity has taken shape in the city.

Organisers want to attract a wide range of interests from cycle sport to cycle training, and cycle safety to cycle route design.

Non-cyclists and wannabe cyclists are also invited as the organisers would like to know what will persuade people to give up their cars and travel by bike.

The agenda for the meeting will include:

An update on the West Yorkshire “go:cycling” project from Carl Tinson the project co-ordinator;

An update on progress with the Dewsbury to Ossett Greenway – a new cycling and walking path;

A discussion around how Kirklees cycle clubs and organisations communicate with each other and co-ordinate activity;

The Tour de France which is to be hosted in Kirklees in 2014.
