THE HISTORY of Meltham and Meltham Baptist Church will be chronicled in an exhibition at the church this weekend.

The exhibition, which runs alongside the church’s flower festival, takes place as part of Meltham Baptist Church’s 200th anniversary celebrations this year.

Other celebrations to come include a coach outing, quiz night, and a Songs of Praise style service.

Meltham Baptist Church, which was founded in 1813, first met in a cottage, off Golcar Brow Road.

The first chapel was built in 1816 on Mean Lane before a larger chapel was built in 1863.

The congregation moved to its present location, formerly Meltham Baptist Church Sunday School, after the old chapel was demolished in 1967 following problems with dry rot.
