The Post Office has backed the bid for a new branch in the heart of Meltham.

The team behind the renovation of the Carlile Institute were backed by Post Office bosses during an interview.

It means a main branch with full business, accounts and collection desk will form part of the Carlile Institute.

Christian Markham and Richard Noon had an interview with Post Office bosses in Leeds.

A delighted Richard said: “They liked our idea and were really positive about it.

“It will be a main branch of the Post Office with full counter service, business banking and the main benefit is that every time someone spends in the Post Office a proportion of that goes back to the community to keep the Carlile Institute running.

“Christian has been leading the Post Office bid and there was a robust financial review beforehand to make sure our business case was sound.”

A community team are leading the asset transfer of the Carlile Institute to bring the Kirklees Council owned building to life.

The Post Office will be complemented by a library service, cafe and community rooms.

And the Huddersfield Road building will also be home to businesses which will operate from it.

The decision means the asset transfer can be finalised and handed over to the community shortly.
