THE body of snooker star Paul Hunter is laying in wait in a Leeds church.

Hunter, 27, died in Kirkwood Hospice last week after losing his battle with cancer.

The man who was dubbed "Beckham of The Baize" trained at Huddersfield's Syngenta Sports Club and was a regular player in the town.

His funeral service takes place at Leeds Parish Church on Thursday.

A book of condolence has been placed in the church for mourners to pay their respects.

Hunter, who lived in Batley with his wife Lindsey and daughter Evie Rose, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in March 2005.
