A CHARITY walk dedicated to a community champion is to be held in Emley.

Richard Daley, 68, served the Emley and Emley Moor community as chairman of its neighbourhood watch group for more than 10 years.

Now the community has given something back in his memory after his sad death from cancer last May.

About 40 members of Emley and Emley Moor Neighbourhood Watch took part in a walk last year, as a tribute to Richard who had started to plan it as a fundraiser.

Now the walk has now become an annual fixture in his memory. Colin Hadfield, treasurer of the neighbourhood watch, said: “Richard organised a walk last year and after he died we decided to do it in his memory so called it the Richard Daley Memorial Walk.

“We raised £2,049 and half has gone to Kirkwood Hospice and the rest to the neighbourhood watch.”

Mr Daley ran DC Autos, which has been taken over by one of his long-standing colleagues.

The walk is on June 17 starting at The White Horse in Emley for the seven-mile circular trek. The beneficiaries will be Kirkwood Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and neighbourhood watch.
