FOOTBALL fan Michelle Wood got a wedding anniversary to remember – thanks to her beloved Huddersfield Town.

A surprise visit to the Galpharm Stadium was arranged by her husband Paul to mark their 21st wedding anniversary.

Michelle, 42, was born in Primrose Hill in Huddersfield but moved to London with her family when she was three years old.

Her dedication to Town has never wavered and she calls herself the ‘greatest Town fan in London’.

She and Paul, who live in Waltham Abbey in Essex, even honeymooned in Huddersfield in 1987.

Paul, 47, wanted to book tickets for Town’s game against Brighton on Saturday , so that Michelle could watch her first ever Town game at home.

So, he contacted Huddersfield Town secretary Ann Hough who went the extra mile and helped him arrange a secret surprise for Michelle.

The couple arrived in Huddersfield last Thursday, with Michelle thinking she was just visiting the Town shop to buy memorabilia.

Then, on Friday she was shocked to be whisked to the Galpharm Stadium for a private tour of the ground and to watch players train on the pitch.

She also met incoming Town chairman Dean Hoyle.

On Saturday, Paul pretended to have left his credit card in the Town shop, so the couple returned to the Galpharm.

To Michelle’s surprise, there was a three-course pre-match meal waiting for them and then a VIP seat in the stadium.

After the 2-2 draw against Brighton, she met Town legend Andy Booth, who had just played his last ever game for the team.

Michelle said she was overcome with emotion.

She said: “I’ll never forget that day.”

Despite being a Tottenham Hotspur fan himself, Paul has to check Town’s results regularly for Michelle.

He said: “I have to follow Huddersfield’s progress!

“The whole surprise started off simply but got out of hand. Town were brilliant, just unbelievable and Michelle was really choked up by it all.”
