A CHURCH is piloting a midweek "cafe" style worship - to encourage more people to come to church.
The innovative idea at St Thomas's Church, Bradley, followed group discussions over new ways to bring people through the doors.
And already it is proving to be a success.
The midweek worship is much less formal than the traditional Sunday service.
Churchgoers can expect a light meal, individual seated tables and a variety of multi-media presentations about Christianity.
Lay assistant Dave Hewitt said: "We are not expecting people to come along and sing, we are trying to bring new ideas to the church which people are likely to respond to.
"Sunday has become more of a family day and so we felt that introducing a mid-week event would provide an alternative option.
"Rather than a traditional service it will provide a modern approach which we hope will bring a mixture of people into the church."
The evenings will be held once a month on a Thursday between 7pm and 8.30pm.
