The Red and Green Club at Milnsbridge is organising a unique hustings event.

On Thursday, May 15, from 7.30pm, local election candidates from the Colne Valley and Golcar wards will present their policies to a public meeting.

Confirmed speakers so far include representatives of Labour, Green Party, UKIP, Trade Union and Socialist Coalition (Ashbrow candidate). In addition, a speaker from the Huddersfield Anarchist league will put an alternative view urging people not to vote!

“It’s probably a unique hustings event where one of the speakers advocates a policy of abstention!” said club chairman Paul Salveson.

“I think most people will be intending to vote and I hope that everyone attending will come with an open mind. Whilst most speakers are from the left of the spectrum, we welcome different views and everyone will be made welcome and treated with courtesy.”

The event is open to all members of the public and the club is hoping for a good response from the community.

Each speaker (one per party) will be given 10 minutes to speak followed by 10 minutes for questions. At the end of the session there will be a short panel discussion involving all the speakers.
