A MILNSBRIDGE man assaulted a council worker.

Alan Norton, of Glastonbury Drive, admitted assault when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates.

The Huddersfield bench was told that the victim was Christopher Thomas, a housing manager for Kirklees Council.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said that Mr Thomas had heard about an incident involving Norton where he had been aggressive to his colleagues.

On November 29 he then saw Norton at a drop-in centre on Sycamore Court in Golcar.

Mrs Fowler said: “He asked him about his behaviour and advised him that he must remain calm and not be abusive.

“Norton became aggressive towards him and threw a punch towards him, this connected with his face.

“He attempted to throw a second punch but the complainant moved out of the way”.

Norton, 52, told police that he was being threatened by Mr Thomas and described the punch as a ‘warning shot’.

Magistrates fined him £100 and told him to pay £50 compensation to Mr Thomas.

The bench also ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
