THIEVES have damaged a drystone wall on an ancient footpath.

The wall on Field Tops footpath in Lindley has been damaged in six places.

Some parts of the wall have holes after the vandalism last week.

Clr Christine Stanfield said: “The footpath, which goes back a couple of hundred years, has beautiful drystone walls on each side which have been systematically attacked. In some places the hole goes through the double skin to the other side and in other parts just the inside layer of stone has been pulled out.

“This is mindless stupidity, it makes sections of the wall dangerous and creates extra expense for taxpayers.”

The Lindley Lib-Dem wants security on the path, which runs between Plover Road and West Street. Clr Stanfield said: “This section of the path needs cameras in strategic places.”
