CHILDREN'S minister Margaret Hodge has visited Huddersfield.

The Government minister came to St John's CofE Primary School in Golcar yesterday as part of a Yorkshire tour which also took in Leeds and Shipley.

She was touring with Yvette Cooper, Labour's minister for regeneration and both ministers were aiming to encourage women to go out and vote in the May 5 General Election.

Labour is hoping their tactics of targeting family issues will persuade Britain's 1.3m young mothers who don't vote to back them in the election.

At Golcar, they were giving out Labour's six-page Family Matter leaflets at the school gates and were joined by Labour's Colne Valley candidate, Kali Mountford.

The leaflets have information on what the Government has done for mothers and young children.
