A CAR was virtually split in two after a crash drama in Deighton.

The force of the impact ripped the engine out of the turquoise Vauxhall Tigra after it smashed into a lamppost on Riddings Road at 11.30pm on Friday.

The lamppost came crashing down as the wrecked car then careered into two parked cars – a Vauxhall Vectra and a Mitsubishi.

Even though the front of the car had been sheared off, the Tigra driver managed to scramble clear and run away.

Police say the car had been seen driven at speed in Deighton shortly before the crash.

Inquiries were going on to trace him.

The demolished lamppost was left in three pieces by the force of the impact.
