The Environment Agency and the Canals and Rivers Trust have agreed to attend a floods meeting in Mirfield.

Clr Martyn Bolt said he was delighted to have got the key agencies to come and discuss future risks to the town.

There will be a review of the recent floods and a discussion and presentation on what is going to be done in Mirfield or further afield to prevent the water flow hitting the region.

Clr Bolt warned it was time to act after his attempts to get action nine years ago were snubbed.

He said: “If a study had been carried out we would have had a proposal ready for any funding bids.

“We would have known the effect on water levels and businesses and Mirfield would not have suffered millions of pounds worth of damage at Christmas, threatening local jobs and homes.”

The Mirfield Flood Resilience meeting will take place on March 24 at 7pm in St Paul’s church, Mirfield.

Clr Bolt is asking interested people to send any questions for the meeting in advance so answers can be prepared. Email: martyn.bolt@kirklees.gov.uk
