A MIRFIELD motorist was caught drink-driving after his car ran out of petrol and he attempted to reverse it off the road and hit a wall.

Mark Ashman, 49, of St Mary’s Walk, Mirfield, was stopped by police driving his Ford Mondeo in Back Lane.

A breath test showed a reading of 129 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – more than three times the legal limit.

Prosecutor Linda Fowler, said only Ashman’s vehicle was damaged

She said Ashman, a joiner, was still in the vehicle when police arrived.

In mitigation, the court heard Ashman, had been due to get a lift home with a friend. When they left without him, he took the foolish action to drive home instead of phoning a taxi.

Ashman pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving with no insurance.

Magistrates adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports.
