A PLAY based on the story of Jesus with a modern twist is to be performed at a Mirfield church.

The play, ‘i-way’, is partly set in a tent encampment outside a London cathedral.

The lead figure J (Jesus) is played by Helen Mitchell.

Playwright Chris Swift, a hospital chaplain in Leeds, said the story was inspired by the recent Occupy movement.

He added: “The Occupy movement offered an excellent vehicle to look afresh at the conflict between Jesus and a range of religious and political authorities.”

The play will be performed on Monday, April 2, 3 and 4 (7.30pm) at Christ the King church in Battyeford.

Music has been composed by local musicians and much of the cast is drawn from the church congregation.

Admission is free. For information log onto:www.christ-the-king.co.uk
