A giant inflatable banana that gave Fairtrade campaigners the slip in Honley has been found.

The flighty fruit had been put up by social media company Social Progress in Huddersfield Road, Honley , to promote Fairtrade Fortnight in the Holme Valley, which runs to March 8.

But staff were dismayed to see it had disappeared on Tuesday afternoon, despite being tied to a yellow Tour de France bike with cable ties, alongside a giant inflatable mug... leading them to think it had been stolen.

Esther Orridge, from the firm said it made an eye-catching display, adding: "The sad thing is it wasn’t even our banana: we borrowed it from Holme Valley Fairtrade."

After an appeal in the Examiner, eagle eyed pupils from Honley High School found the banana in the river near a 'missing' poster' - but sadly the borrowed berry was deflated.

Esther added: "It was tied down so we don't know how it got down there!"
