A huge community effort has been launched - to find a missing dog.

Over 200 people are now members of the ‘Please Find our Hamish’ Facebook group, which was set up the disappearance of Slaithwaite woman Genna Spinks’ dog on Monday.

The 10-month-old sprocker spaniel was last seen while on a walk with Genna and her partner Miriam Skinner, of Manchester Road, at Bobus on Wessenden Moor on Monday.

Worried people have also been posting on the Marsden Facebook page to ask for others to help find him and according to Marsden man Si Taylor, who owns Mountain Feet, several “sweeps” of the area he is thought to have vanished in have already taken place.

He has even uploaded a marked map with his last known location and possible directions in which he may have travelled.

Si said: “I’ve been asked by many people who want to help where they would be most effective searching.

“Since many sweeps have been done local to where he vanished, we should now maybe concentrate on the area around and south of the A635 near Snoopy’s layby at the top of Wessenden Head.

“A well-known local fell runner who has massive knowledge of the Pennine tops has seen tracks maybe a day or so old resembling a solo medium size dog just south of where Hamish was last seen.

“This could make sense and would mean he’s likely to fetch up on or around the A635 Saddleworth Moor road and potentially cross it to the Black Hill, Dovestone, Crowden, Holme Moss or Digley Reservoir areas.

“This is a vast area but it’s a possible lead and makes it seem more likely that Hamish is roaming rather than stuck.”

The campaign to find the dog is the latest to attract attention on social media, following Jerry the beagle from Slaithwaite and the stolen Greetland springer spaniel Bramble, who were both found safe and well.

Genna’s friend, Angela Hoy, who set up the group, said: “Our concern is that he might have fallen down a hole near to where he went missing but the area has been checked a lot and can’t find anything.

“A possible sighting at Dovestones reservoir in Oldham gives us hope he’s run off and out there somewhere.

“Please share to help this gorgeous boy home.”
