Also overnight, a lock keeper's cottage was badly damaged by fire in Brighouse.

Fire crews from Brighouse and Elland attended the fire around 1.10am this morning next to the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal, just off Elland Road.

The derelict cottage was badly damaged and one quarter of the roof was burned through.

Fire crews spent around two hours at the scene.

They used one hose reel jet and a small pump to extract water from the canal to help fight the fire.
