THE woman whose body was found on isolated rural moorland has been named as Sabira Alam.

Police have also arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of the murder of the 20-year-old, who is believed to be from Huddersfield.

He is currently in custody.

Sabira's body was found close to the A640 at Buckstones at around 10am on Sunday morning.

Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) - who is leading the investigation – said: "This is a desperately tragic event.

"Sabira was a young woman who had her whole life ahead of her. We need to know why anyone would anyone want to harm her and would ask anyone who may have information to contact us.

"We also want to know if anyone saw her recently and we need to trace items that Sabira is believed to have had on her which are now missing.

"These are a pair of earmuffs, a scarf, a pair of flat red shoes and an I-pod – do you know where these are – if so please tell us?"

The A640 is still closed leaving Huddersfield at the Jack O'Mitre pub as police continue to investigate Sabira's death.

Anyone who has any information that can help us solve the murder of Sabira Alam should contact Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor at HMET on 0845 60 60 606, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
