A VICAR is expecting to raise up to £1,500 after taking part in the World Coal Carrying Championship.
The Rev Paul Maybury, 47, Vicar of Ossett and Gawthorpe, near Wakefield, finished 22nd out of 30 competitors.
He raced over a mile-long course at Gawthorpe while carrying a 50kg sack of coal.
The money he will raise from sponsors is to go towards the village Maypole celebrations and church and community projects.
Scarborough builder John Hunter, 42, won the race for a record-breaking eight time.
The competition has been held every Easter Monday since 1963 after an argument between two coalmen over who could run the fastest with a sack on his back.
