A HUDDERSFIELD school has been praised for its innovation and creativity in STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and maths.

Moorend Technology College has been highly commended by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust for its work as part of the National Science and Engineering Competition.

The school received its commendation in the category for schools with a specialism in technology.

Specialist schools were asked to submit a short, student-produced video, to demonstrate innovation and effectiveness in teaching science, technology, engineering and maths.

Judges felt the entry reflected how hard the school had been working to promote the importance of STEM.

Dr Fiona Burford, manager of the National Science and Engineering Competition said: “The students’ video from Moorend really demonstrated their hard work and dedication to engage and inspire those around them.’’

The school will receive its awards in the National Science and Engineering Competition at the Big Bang Fair next month.
