POLICE are to make further arrests in the wake of trouble in Thornton Lodge.

Police were pelted with bricks and fireworks after an arson attack on Thornton Lodge Community Centre on Wednesday night.

The area remained quiet last night after police had liaised with community leaders yesterday.

A 16-year-old youth was arrested on suspicion of arson this morning.

Four men have been arrested, two for alleged public order offences and two on suspicion of arson. They have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

There had been three arson attacks at the community centre since Sunday night, but none had caused serious damage.

The community centre on Brook Street is used by several organisations including the Eastern Women's fitness group, Neighbourhood Learning, Surestart, Thornton Lodge Playgroup, Sahara Young People's Service, Mehfal-E-Niswan, South Kirklees Women's Asian Network and Huddersfield Healthy Living Group.
