THE new St George’s Square is taking shape.

The £4m revamp of the Huddersfield landmark is nearing completion, with a further 200sq metres re-opened to the public last week.

Two new lighting columns have been installed and wired in Railway Street.

Kirklees Council said flagging work on the plaza should finish this week.

The area will then be grouted before it is re-opened.

Clr Christine Stanfield, the council’s Cabinet member for regeneration said: “There are three paving gangs now working full-time on the square and they have done a great job in a really short space of time.”
