A MOTORCYCLIST was seriously injured following a collision with a car outside Brighouse swimming pool.

The biker was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after a smash with a Nissan Almera Tino on the A641 Bradford Road shortly before 7am yesterday.

The incident saw the car plough into the wall by the entrance to the pool and fitness centre.

The car was being driven towards Brighouse town centre when the crash happened.

An off-duty police officer was first on the scene and he made sure the injured man was kept still until paramedics arrived.

Speaking at the scene of the incident, Sgt Richard Hay of The Southern Road Policing Unit, said they were concerned for the welfare of the man riding the Suzuki V-Strom motorbike.

He said the female driver of the Nissan car had walked away from the collision uninjured and no passengers had been in the vehicle.

No arrests have been made.

The incident caused heavy congestion on back roads between Bradford Road and Halifax Road after police closed the busy trunk road between Bradford and Brighouse.

Traffic officers also barred entry to the route at the mini-roundabout by Tesco.

The road was closed until the afternoon while officers investigated the collision.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them by ringing 101.
