A motorist suffered leg injuries after crashing into a fence in Birkby.

Residents were woken in the early hours of this morning (Thursday) after the car crashed into the fence on Blacker Road, causing extensive damage.

One eyewitness claimed to have seen a person carried off in a stretcher at around 1.30am after reports a red Vauxhall Corsa clipped a parked car.

Simon Mellor said: “A chap was taken away on a stretcher, I think that’s the only casualty.

“A red Vauxhall Corsa must have come down the hill at speed, clipped a car and then slammed side on into the fence.”

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at 12.37am to Blacker Road.

“A car had crashed into a fence. It would appear this involved two vehicles and a car hit a fence.

“One person suffered leg injuries, but these are not thought to be serious.”
