FIRE crews battled to free a man trapped after a road accident.

Crews went to the scene of the accident, involving a Vauxhall Astra Estate taxi and a Citroen Saxo, on Whitehall Road in Norwood Green, near Brighouse, at 2.49am yesterday morning.

The cars had collided and the Astra had burst into flames.

The driver of the Citroen, a man in his 20s, became trapped in his car.

Fire crews from Brighouse and Odsal doused the flames in the Astra while cutting the stricken driver from his vehicle.

He was taken to the Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax, suffering from back and leg injuries.
