HOLME Valley's Mountain Rescue Team helped police to find an old woman who had gone missing last night.
The Marsden-based rescue team started the search close to Holmfirth at just after 8.30pm, and shortly after found the elderly woman who was confused and suffering from mild hypothermia.
Stretchers were used to get the woman from the scene, which is inaccessible by road, across farmland and into a waiting ambulance.
Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team's assistant leader Owen Phillips said “We had a good, fast turn out from the team, and were able to quickly locate the casualty and have her in an ambulance on the way to hospital within an hour and a half of being called.
“Where the casualty was located, it would have been impossible for an ambulance crew to get to her. We have the skills and the kit to transport a casualty across steep and uneven ground - and keep them warm and as comfortable as possible during the evacuation.
“People assume we are there solely to help people on the moors or the crags, but many of the techniques we use up there are of great use closer to home. Many of our calls are to missing people in rural or semi-urban areas, where our search expertise still applies.
"And the assistance we can offer with difficult to reach casualties has invaluable to the ambulance service on numerous occasions. Tonight was great example of how we can all work together to make a real difference to one person.”
The incident is the third call the volunteer Holme Valley Team has had this week.
On Saturday the Team was called to assist West Yorkshire Police with another missing person, and on Sunday they were mobilised by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to help with an incident in Meltham.
