ONE of Britain's oldest cinemas will make a special television appearance ... on young people's channel MTV.
An invited audience at the Rex Cinema in Elland will see Date Movie, the latest spoof from the makers of Scary Movie.
They will be invited to make comments which will be shown on MTV film show Screenplay, hosted by Alex Zane.
The screenings have normally been held at multi-screen cinemas.
But programme producer Rob Lewis said he was keen to show younger audiences that there were other venues around to choose from.
Rex owner Charles Morris said he was delighted to be hosting Sunday's screening before a 200-strong audience.
He said: "In the early days we attempted to cater for the younger audience but we found they tended not to favour us, so we turned more to the selective film market.
"I am very much looking forward to this event to see what is now their reaction to what we provide."
Date Movie stars Buffy and American Pie actress Alyson Hannigan and is billed as a romantic comedy.
The MTV programme featuring the Rex Cinema will be broadcast on Friday, February 25 at 7pm, then repeated on the next day at noon.
It will also be shown on TMF on February 26 at 4.30pm and again, MTV2 on March 1.
The Rex is also due to feature on March 1 on Channel 4's Movie Lounge at 7.15pm.
Filming has already taken place and features two regular customers explaining what is so special about the cinema.
Mr Morris said it was interesting to see how TV technology had changed over the years.
"The first time we were filmed, there was a small army of cameramen, soundmen and lighting technicians, in addition to the interviewer.
"Plus there were wires and equipment all over the place.
"This time there was just one young lady with a carrier bag containing one piece of equipment which did everything," said Mr Morris.
