POP singer Belinda Carlisle will be performing in Holmfirth this week.

American star Belinda, 47, will be in concert at The Picturedrome tomorrow.

And the singer has strong Huddersfield links - she is married to Morgan Mason, son of famous Huddersfield son, actor James Mason.

The Hollywood-born singer has returned to the spotlight recently due to the release of her long-awaited seventh album Voilà.

It is her first studio album in ten years and has been produced by John Renolds.

The album, set for release on Rykodisc on September 11, is a mix of French chanson and modern pop songs.

Belinda is well-known for a string of solo hits during the 1980s and 1990s - including Heaven Is A Place On Earth, Circle In The Sand, Leave A Light On, We Want The Same Thing and Summer Rain.

But her career started in as a drummer for the punk band The Germs, under the name Dottie Danger.

In the early 1980s, she joined rock'n'roll girl group The Go-Go's as their vocalist.

The group - featuring bassist Kathy Valentine, guiratists Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey and drummer Gina Schock - broke up in 1985 but has reformed several times for tours.

Tickets for the Holmfirth gig, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £18.50 and are available from 01472 349222 or visit www.picturedrome.net.
