MP is set to chair scrutineers

HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman has been appointed chairman of the new Children, Schools and Families Select Committee.

He was formerly the chairman of the Education and Skills Select Committee and the new committee will scrutinise the work and spending of the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

Mr Sheerman said: “This new committee will allow us to investigate some vital issues such as social mobility, adoption, the school curriculum, testing and assessment and much more. We have a wonderful team and I am very excited by the challenges that lie ahead.”
