A PLAYGROUP is on a final push to realise its dream.

And Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman has stepped in to try and help the group.

Cowcliffe Playgroup is currently based in a Scout hall at Netheroyd Hill Road.

Last January the playgroup committee launched an appeal to raise £60,000 to pay for the new building in the grounds of Fixby Junior and Infants School.

And it has now raised £42,000 in cash, materials and offers of labour and can begin work on site.

The group packed bags at Sainsbury's to raise money for the outdoor play area which has an estimated cost of £8,000.

Angela Glover, chair of the group said: "We stayed six hours and raised an amazing £726.82.

"We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the shoppers, we met some really lovely people."

MP Mr Sheerman is calling all his contacts in a bid to find twelve businesses who will pledge money for the appeal.

He said: "I met the group in November and I'm very enthusiastic about them. I'm backing them to the hilt.

"They are a marvellous energetic group and have raised so much money on their own that they deserve all the help they can get."

Any supplier who can give the group a competitive quote can contact it via the www.cowcliffe-playgroup.org.uk website.
