A KIRKLEES gym has been reopened by a local MP.
Communities minister Ruth Kelly was to have relaunched the fitness suite at Dewsbury Sports Centre.
But she was held up in London, so Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik (pictured) did the honours.
The gym closed in September for major renovation, including installing an aroma- therapy room, sauna, steam room, an ice station and spa pool.
Some 80 fitness stations were also included in the £1.1m refit.
Kirklees Council spokesman Ian Whitehead is delighted with the result.
He said: "It looks stylish and modern. We are very proud of it.
"We believe that to move forward within the leisure industry we have to modernise our centres, not just replace like for like.
"We need to be innovative in our ideas to keep people interested in being active and to encourage new people into our centres."
