HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman expressed his delight as London celebrated the success of its bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
Mr Sheerman said: "This is wonderful opportunity for London and the country as a whole.
"It is a huge honour to be selected as the host country, and I believe that we can make this one of the most memorable Games in its history.
"Yorkshire has been a prominent supporter of the London 2012 campaign from the very beginning.
"Our sports facilities are first-class and attract some of the highest calibre athletes in the country.
"I am confident we have a significant role to play in the forthcoming preparations as well as the Games itself.
"Huddersfield in particular, with the Galpharm Stadium, is well placed to be used by the Games for training and I look forward to welcoming athletes to our town."
